A note from Kula Founder, Anastasia:

I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Patagonia in 2012, where I was fortunate enough to have the experience of crossing the Patagonian Ice Cap in its entirety. I have seen Fitz Roy at sunrise... with a rainbow arching over a glacier beneath its sheer granite walls. To say that Patagonia is awe-inspiring is an understatement. Patagonia is one of those remarkable places that leaves you gasping for air at the sheer scale and magnitude of the vastness of our planet. I am so humbled and honored to feature Claire's incredible art on this Kula - and I hope that it gives you a sense of awe and wonder too.

About the design, from the artist Claire Giordano:
Alpenglow is a magical phenomena of light and snow that always inspires me to wake up early and race to a ridgeline to see it. In this painting, I wanted to share the incredible colors that glow on the peak for a very short time. The mountain featured in this design is Fitz Roy or Cerro Chalten. It is located in the Southern Patagonian Ice Field in Argentina. Cerro is a Spanish word meaning ridge, while Chaltén comes from a Tehuelche (Aonikenk) word meaning "smoking mountain", because a cloud usually forms around the mountain's peak.
About the artist, Claire Giordano:
Claire Giordano is an environmental artist, writer, and educator creatively exploring stories of science, climate change, and the modern experience of nature. Through art created outside and in the studio, Claire strives to forge emotional connections between people and place. She is also the founder of the Adventure Art Academy, where she teaches a series of monthly virtual watercolor classes that are filmed outside. In each class, Claire invites you into the process of painting and experiencing a place from initial sketch to finished painting (minus the mosquitos!).
