 Divine organ in a body

Uterus is its name

It doesn't beat like a heart

But it can hold a heart just the same

This precious source of being

From where we once emerged

Cosmic dust takes a breath

As mind and body merge.

'Uterus' Kula is an original work of art by UK-based artist Emery Smith.  Emery is a non-binary fabric designer, artist and sewist from the UK who creates designs that are inspired by color, science and nature. Fun fact: Emery has a PhD in Astrophysics... AND Emery designed the second Kula print ever in existence (Nice Axe - for those of you OG Kula fans!).

Ok, now here's an interesting story. I (Kula Founder Anastasia) worked in a pathology lab when I was in college - and in the pathology lab, body parts arrive to get inspected by the pathologist. On my first day on the job, an actual uterus arrived in the lab from a human who had a hysterectomy. Can you imagine being a 20 year old college student who is standing in the presence of an actual human uterus? My mind was blown. I don't say this to sound gross at all - but it was this really beautiful, precious thing. Our bodies are true miracles and what a gift it is that we get to experience life in them. Whether you have a uterus or not, we can all deeply appreciate the gift of being alive. I really love this beautiful design, and I'm excited to see it out on the trails.

About the Uterus Kula:

We are donating a portion of proceeds from this Kula to the Hera Foundation!

Organization description:

Mission The mission of the HERA Ovarian Cancer Foundation is to eliminate ovarian cancer by promoting Health, Empowerment, Research, and Awareness.

HERA recognizes that when someone is diagnosed with ovarian cancer it is important that they feel empowered to seek the treatments that best fit their needs. At the heart of HERA is the underlying premise that individuals need to have the knowledge and the confidence to fully understand and advocate for the direction of their healthcare. Through fundraising events that include rock climbing and other physically challenging activities, HERA helps participants discover their own inner strength, while at the same time providing much needed education about ovarian cancer. The money raised targets and supports cutting edge research to encourage early detection, find improved treatments, and work towards a future cure. Donate today!

About the product itself:

This is more than just a cloth. This is the product of years of obsessing over a way to create a pee cloth that solves all of the problems of traditional pee cloth options. It is a real piece of gear (not an afterthought scrap or remnant of fabric) created out of a love for the community of people we serve and love for the wilderness experiences we seek. It is a small piece of history in the making. It is the first of its kind - an intentionally designed antimicrobial pee cloth for all the places you 'go'.

The Kula Cloth has these unique features that make it an extremely intentional piece of gear:

- super absorbent (absorbs 10x its weight in water!) and soft

- advanced silver-infused, antimicrobial fabric

- eco-friendly non-toxic materials (Bamboo Viscose, Cotton, Organic Cotton, Polyester)

- durable and waterproof 'clean' side so your hand doesn't get wet

- easily snaps to backpack using plastic snaps

- 'double snap' allows cloth to hang while folded in half (so it doesn't touch pack and/or get dirty on the trail)

- easy to clean or rinse and quick to dry

- retro-reflective thread detail for locating it at night with your headlamp

- size is approx 6x6 inches

- weight per cloth is .63oz (note: the artist series Kulas are slightly larger than the stock print Kulas due to a different process that we use to custom print each item individually)

- proudly made in the USA

Backpacking with Kula

We were out on the trail for 2 days and the Kula cloth was wonderful. All the women we saw on the trail had one. But somehow on the way home to wait out some weather, I lost it. So I had to get another one to be ready to be back out on the trail.

Kula convert !

Got my kula cloth to take on my first backpacking trip! Worked great! I felt very comfy peeing and cool rocking a powerful ovaries print. I take my kula with me on long runs and and other outdoor adventures. Hey maybe make a larger cloth to help with al fresco menstrual cup cleaning? Thanks!
