Have you ever been outside in the Winter and just... listened? Sometimes, I sit in the snow and close my eyes, and I feel like everything -- including my fears, worries and doubts -- are all being absorbed by the world around me. It's a moment of peace that's sometimes punctuated by falling flakes and crunching footsteps. Winter feels like the earth itself has pulled a fluffy down comforter over its head and said, it's time for a little bit of a rest.
We don't often give ourselves permission to rest, but today I'm offering that option for you. Take a deep breath and feel yourself sinking into the snow -- even if it's just imaginary snow. Be there and be still. What do you notice?

Shelby Thayne is a watercolor artist living in eastern Idaho with her husband and two children. She was lucky enough to grow up in the foothills of the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and has loved her time living in Utah, Washington state, and now Idaho. She is deeply inspired by nature, and her art plays with color and depth to capture vast landscapes on small canvases. She is passionate about the importance of creativity to the human experience and loves teaching watercolor classes through Kula Academy.
